Here are a few frequently asked questions which you may find useful. If however you can’t see what you are looking for, please contact the events team and they will be happy to answer your questions.
For catering purposes, we class a child as anyone between the age of 2-12. Any child under the age of 2 is classed as an infant and is therefore free of charge as they are generally not provided with any food or drink. We can of course provide options for under 2’s if required. Please call the team to discuss your specific requirements.
We welcome bands and any live music throughout your day and or evening. Please discuss the details with your event manager to ensure that timings fit perfectly. At the current time, we do not have any sound limiters in the Orangery and our resident DJ’s, if playing, are more than happy to work alongside them. If in doubt, please just check before committing to any booking.
If centre pieces for the tables include candles, these must be enclosed by glass or set within a wide, solid base. For Health & Safety reasons naked flames are not permitted. Tea lights, in shallow holders, are not allowed. Wax spillages may incur specialist cleaning charges. If you are in any doubt, please liaise with your chosen caterer. Battery operated candles are an effective and much safer alternative. Wax candles and torches are not permitted for use within the grounds.
Fireworks are permitted but they must be arranged through our approved pyrotechnic supplier and are subject to local authority restrictions on timings and noise levels. The fireworks must be over by 10.00pm latest. The designated fireworks provider is Angelfire Pyrotechnics Ltd and their contact details can be found in the suppliers section. No other firework companies are permitted to organise displays on the estate.
Guests are permitted to smoke within the grounds of the estate, but not within the Orangery or Garden Room.
We have eight wooden high chairs here at The Orangery which are available for use during the wedding breakfast. We do not however have any booster seats here so clients would need to supply their own.
Two local taxi companies are Streamline (01622 750000) and Express (01622 690000). For guests requiring taxis, early booking is strongly advised, especially for Friday and Saturday weddings, as Maidstone town can be extremely busy on these evenings.
For Health and Safety reasons, sky lanterns are not permitted.
Cars must be parked in the designated Orangery car park and be removed at the end of the event. Occasionally, it may be necessary for some drivers to leave their cars overnight. They may do so, entirely at their own risk, provided that cars are left in the Orangery Car Park and removed by noon on the following day. The Orangery Maidstone Ltd cannot accept responsibility for any damage or loss that may occur. If a car is parked inappropriately, it may be removed at the expense of the client.
Should clients want the Orangery chairs to be covered, please note that, for cleaning purposes, covers must be removed at the end of the event and clients should book a supplier that provides this service. Details of our two recommended chair cover suppliers can be found in the suppliers section. For logistical reasons, we strongly recommend that you only cover the chairs in the Orangery. However, if you are having your ceremony here and particularly want to cover the ceremony chairs in the Garden Room as well, please call the events office to discuss this. Please note that The Orangery staff, caterers etc are not responsible for the fitting of chair covers. This service must be provided by your chosen supplier on the morning of the wedding.
Ideally, presents and other valuables should be taken away at the end of the evening. However, items that cannot be removed at that time can be kept in a locked room overnight, entirely at the client’s risk. These will need to be collected the following day before 11am. The Evening Manager will agree a time with you.
Rose petals and biodegradable confetti only are allowed outdoors. In consideration for the estate and its wildlife, rice and other types of confetti (including metallic) are not permitted. “Popper-type” exploding confetti cones are not allowed inside or outside.

Yes, The Orangery and Garden Room are fully accessible to wheelchair users. There are disabled access toilets adjacent to the Garden Room and inside the Orangery too. The Wedding Garden itself is landscaped and there are some cobbled pathways which may make certain areas difficult to get to. We would always advise that you come along and take a look first. Please contact the events team on 01622 919919 to book an appointment, one of the team would be happy to show you around.
The bar will close at 11.40pm. Bands and discos etc must finish by midnight at the latest. All guests are required to have vacated the premises by 12.30am.
Yes, sweet carts/tables are permitted. However, other than sweets and the wedding cake, clients are not permitted to bring any food into the venue for use during an event or book any alternative suppliers to provide food or beverages.
